Inspiration

I'm a member of Plein Air of Chicago. We paint outside on weekends when the weather is tolerable. This Saturday, Jan 13th, I will have some of my art pieces for sale. The theme is choose a plein air piece that inspired other artworks.

Jan 13-Feb 3, 2018 Jan 13th 6:30pm - 9pm

Artist Reception Palette and Chisel, 1012 N. Dearborn Ave, Chicago IL

Inspired piece

The above plein air sketch was done at Austin neighborhood in Chicago, IL. The Larmie State Bank of Chicago is the oldest Art Deco Building in the area. It is at 5200 W. Chicago Ave and covered with gold exterior of coins, harvests, squirrels, and other signs of prosperity. The future of this building remains uncertain and may be demolished.

Studio piece. Just doing the sketch across the building was drawing too much attention to myself. So I decided to take the sketch home and do another one in oil. I love the woman in red. She was there that day. Even with the majesty of the building, you can not help but notice her first.

Studio Piece This is a semi abstract artwork with ink on yupo paper. I was listening to "Mercy Now" by Mary Gauthier. I was thinking of Austin neighborhood and our country in general. You can barely see the buildings in the background and the white crossing walks in the front. The beauty is there but life happens. Who is there when life happens? Who can we depend on?
